How often should I use my Microneedling Pen?
Microneedling can safely be performed every 4-6 weeks. For collagen induction you may require at least 3 treatments.
Scar reduction generally requires between 3 and 6 treatments.
As a general rule, 4-6 weeks should pass between one treatment and the next.
Nano-needling can be performed once per week.
What will I look like post-treatment?
Needles create deliberate micro-trauma to the skin, which will cause some redness (known as erythema) and in some cases, small amounts of needle-point bleeding (known as petechiae). Microneedling can show instant bruising in some areas, including the cheek bones, forehead and eye area. Some areas are also more sensitive than others, including the forehead, lip area and tip of the nose. If you have taken fish oil supplements, aspirin, anti-inflammatories or had any alcohol within 3 days of your treatment, you may experience more bleeding than usual due to the blood-thinning properties of these substances.
If you experience excessive redness, bruising, swelling or bleeding, immediately cease using the device and seek advice from your healthcare professional. You will experience some redness, tightness and mild swelling for 24-48 hours post-treatment. It's also normal to see small pinpoint bleeding and mild bruising.
After a few days your skin will be a little dry and flakey, which will gradually disappear within one week.
Is micro-needling painful?
The level of discomfort you experience will depend on the needle length you choose to use, as well as whether you apply a numbing cream. The shorter the needle length, the less discomfort you will experience. If your skin is sensitive, you can purchase numbing cream from over the counter at any chemist. Apply approximately ⅓ to ½ of the tube to the area to be needled, leave on for 20 minutes then thoroughly remove the cream. Once you’ve removed the cream, cleanse the skin again. This is to avoid getting numbing cream into the microchannels.
Applying a numbing cream pre-needling is advisable for lengths longer than 1mm. Applying a serum such as hyaluronic acid will also help lubricate your skin and may alleviate some discomfort during the microneedling process.
Which needle length should I be using?
The needle length you choose to use depends on the kind of results you are wishing to achieve. 1mm and below will help even out skin texture and hyperpigmentation, but won't be as effective for reducing scarring. This length is also perfect for those who wish to improve the efficacy of their serums as the ingredients will penetrate deeper into the skin. The deeper a product can get into your skin, the more effective it will be at targeting your skincare concerns. 1mm - 2.5mm is recommended for those wishing to improve the appearance of acne scarring, fine lines and stretch marks, as well as anti-aging concerns. Remember multiple treatments are required for improvement in the appearance of these issues, performed every 4 weeks. It's advisable you consult with your doctor prior to performing at home microneedling treatments and for any skincare concerns.
Which body parts can you microneedle?
You can use the microneedling pen to microneedle on your whole body. Popular areas include face, neck, décolletage, hands and hips (for stretch marks). Delicate areas such as the under-eye area can also be treated. Please see the instructions on the product page for each microneedling pe model to find out the needle depth and cartridge gauge that is best for treating your desired areas.
What is Nano-needling?
Nano-needling is an amazing treatment for product absorption, improving the efficacy of targeted skincare ingredients by up to 97%! By nano-needling once per week, you will see a major improvement in your overall skin texture and tone through this improved absorption rate. This means those serums infused with vitamins A, C, E, ceramide, hyaluronic acid, and peptides (to name a few) will be able to do their job more effectively and treat concerns such as hyperpigmentation, dullness, dryness, fine lines, scarring and sun damage much more efficiently! We recommend our vitamin C serum and hyaluronic acid serum from our online store as great nano-needling products.
Nano-needling cartridges don't actually pierce the skin, making it a non-invasive treatment. For this reason, you can perform nano-needling once per week. There are no needles in the nano-needle cartridges, instead there are tiny pyramid shapes in the form of silicon, titanium or stainless steel which essentially push your product deeper into the skin. We still recommend using a new cartridge for every treatment.
If your skin care concerns are for deeper wrinkles, deep acne scarring, stretch marks, loss of elasticity, hyperpigmentation and overall improved appearance of texture and tone, then microneedling would be a more effective treatment for you.
